Awesome scripture choice. I have that one highlighted. That one strikes a personal note with me. Good choice!! So this past week has been intense. On Friday night my companion and I were riding our bikes home through a rougher part of town and a car drove by and shot at us!!!! I think it was a BB-Gun. It ricocheted off a metal sign near us. My companion and I couldn't believe we'd just been shot at. Also last night we knocked on a British lady's door.
So 22 days. That is going to fly by. 22 days is not much, you should consider what you want to do with your time. Family would be a good idea. I know I'm probably telling you the same thing the rest of the family is but it's true. My companion is obsessed with his girlfriend. He looks at pictures of her, he writes her, she writes him every two days, and he draws and writes her name on every day of his daily planner. You can't tell me that that is not a distraction. Remember what I said that you needed to stop seeing her about a month ago. I would seriously consider doing that so you can get used to it. Do something fun together this weekend to celebrate being done with finals, and then call it done. Don't talk to her or see her anymore. Give yourself these 20 days to clean out your system. Trust me on this one.
Here's some cool scriptures for you, Romans 10:13-17 and 1 Nephi 1:20. I love you bro. It's good to hear that preparations are going well. I hope you did well on your finals and I look forward to hearing how they went next week.
Your Eldest Bro.

HI, We're going to a Holocaust museum that just opened up, so not much time today. How are things going for you?
Hey bud, it's great to hear that things are going so great for you. I wish I could get a replay of this shot that you made. As for school, hang in there and keep plugging along. Those are some good times when you're in school with your friends, so enjoy them. They go by really fast. I can tell that your testimony is getting stronger, and it will continue to do so as long as you keep living right and making good choices. As king Benjamin said, in Mosiah 4:29-30, "watch yourselves, and your thoughts, and your words, and your deeds, and ovserve the commandments of God, and continue in the faith of what ye have heard...O man, remember, and perish not." If we keep doing these things the Lord will bless us with his spirit and we will be worthy to receive strengthening experiences to our testimony, when the Lord is ready to give them to us. I love you little bro. You're a great example, and I love the choices you're making and the path you've decided to take. Listen to mom and dad. It might not seem like it at the time, but they know what they are talking about. Love you Bro.
Your Brother and Friend,
Elder Adams
You ended your letter "Buy for now" is there something that you want me to purchase?? "B-Y-E" is how you would indicate that you are giving a farewell to someone. Just a little english lesson. Anyway on Thursday we met with Beverly. Elder Stanger and I were planning on setting a baptismal date, because the time before she was thinking, baptism. This appointment did not go well. She had been to a funeral of a close friend, and there had met a number of her old Church friends again. I think this had something to do with it. She now has every concern, doubt, and disbelief in the book. She doesn't even believe Noah is a prophet. I felt like we had just knocked on her door. I felt like all the work that we'd been doing was in vain. She was like a brick wall to everything that we said. After the appointment I saw Eddie outside and I tried to talk to him, and he seemed out of it. Everything was collapsing this day also. Things were falling through, plans weren't working out. Beverly's lesson was the topper of it all. We were in the southern part of our area on our bikes. The bike ride home probably helped me to calm down. This was probably one of THE MOST frustrating times of my mission. I felt defeated, and like there was nothing I could do. When we got back I had received two letters, which couldn't have come at a better time. One was from sis. Merril. It had some great advice I needed to hear. Please tell her thanks for me. The other was from Bill. He thanked me for conferring the Priesthood on him. This is what I needed to hear, converts appreciating what I am trying to do. He also told us he wants to take us out to lunch at the Cheesecake Factory next wednesday. Elder Stanger and I had to talk about Beverly and vent our frustrations during dinner, but then things got a little better.
Anyway, On Saturday we had Polish food at the Giers. They are a younger couple, and the husband, Tomek, is a convert. He's Polish, and a great cook. Two of the dishes we had were Kopytka and Bigos. Kopytka is like potatoes, and Bigos is cabbage in this really great sauce. It was interesting.
The Spirit really helped me out yesterday. I was feeling really weak when we began a lesson, and I didn't know how I was going to teach. I said the opening prayer and told Heavenly Father I was weak, and prayed for strength. Part way into the lesson things started to click. I taught with power and authority, ideas and thoughts came to my mind. Before I was stumbling through the lesson. It was incredible, how I taught and testified, I was teaching with boldness. This lesson was incredible. This was a first lesson with a Hatian guy, and things went well. We all knelt in silent prayer afterwards. It was great. I taught a lot of this lesson, and my companion told me afterwards that it was really good. He really liked it. I taught the message in a way I never had before and said things I normally don't. That's how I know the Spirit was guiding me. When we got back to the apartment and locked our bikes, as soon as I got to the elevator I felt the weakness come back again. The Spirit boosted me when I needed to be able to teach.
Last night I talked to Bill and told me, "I felt the Spirit when you layed your hands on me." This was such testimony builder for me. I do hold the Priesthood, and it's power is felt. Bill says holding the Priesthood has been a blessing in his life.
Mom here's a scripture I want you to read. 1 Nephi 5:8. The Lord will give Josh and I power to complete the tasks the Lord sets before us.
Also Romans 10:13-17- This is why the the Lord sends out missionaries.
I have also realized something out here. With all of this rain I am probably going to need a waterproof jacket. See if Josh can get a deal on one of those shells he has. One of the waterproof/windproof black jackets. Thanks.
Lots of Love,
Elder Adams
I've also began reading the Book of Mormon again. This time I'm highlighting for everything to do with how to gain a testimony, and another color for everything about the spirit and how to recognize it. I feel these two things help me to fulfill my purpose and also help me strengthen my understanding of how to strengthen my own testimony and gain spiritual knowledge. I figure the better I can teach and explain how to gain a testimony and how to recognize the spirit; the better investigators will be able to become converted. After all that is one of the most difficult things to understand and also to explain: The Spirit. Thus far, the study has been incredible. This idea came in response to a number of very thought out questions from one of our investigators.
Sounds good dad. I don't have any scriptures for your specifically this week. I've got to hurry also, because we are going to a Holocaust museum that just opened. This rain could really stop also. I love you tons dad. You didn't tell me how the Camporee and bike ride went. I thought about that this week.

So it's pretty big news here amongst the Elders Quorum that all four Chicago teams won on Sat. (Bulls, soxs, cubs, Blackhawks). We should be on our bikes this week. We biked Thursday, Friday, and Saturday last week. One day we did about 16.7 miles, and another over 12. It's a lot of fun on the bikes. It's been rainy since sunday so we haven't been on the bikes. The rest of this week is supposed to be nice, so I'm excited to get on the bike again. I haven't heard how you're liking your job at Radio Shak. It's good to hear that you liked the scriptures that I sent you. Here's some more.
3Nephi 22:13-14--Has to do with family.
This is a really good personal one that I read recently---Psalms 56. I love you Dad, and I always love hearing from you. Stay strong in the Gospel, and lead the family in paths of righteousness.

I'll be here for about another 40 minutes or so!!
I did, about three weeks ago. I had the waist taken in on my brown suit. It cost me 14 Bucks!!!
Hey little bro. It sounds like soccer is going awesome. 2-0, that's really good. Chicago is going really well, and the weather is supposed to start warming up. It's been really wet and rainy this past week though, so I'm ready for that to end. It's always good to hear from you though. Hey I had a question to ask you..... Do you still have a mullet??? Yeah you know what I'm talking about. I hope you've learned what a haircut is. I'm just playing with you. Anyway, where are you at in the Book of Mormon? Do you have a favorite scripture yet, or one that you've come across that you've really liked? Keep reading on, and the important thing is to remember to pray. Pray before you read and after. Ask God for understanding and ask specifically for an answer if the Book of Mormon is true. If you do this the Spirit or Holy Ghost will tell you that the Book of Mormon is true. When you finish it, find a quiet secluded place and pray. God will answer you. I finished the Book of Mormon just last week, again. It's always a great boost to read it again. I really enjoyed your testimony, it's really continuing to grow and mature. It's always good to hear your Testimony Spencer. I love you bro. continue on in paths of righteousness and the Lord will Bless and uphold you. Know that someday you too will be able to embark in this great work a serve God and the Savior who redeemed us all. It's such a privilege to be a missionary, and you are so lucky that you have this to look forward to. Prepare now, and live worthy to serve. This is God's true and living Church and it is his work. I leave you with this testimony in the name of Jesus Christ Amen.
Love, Your Big Brother.
Awsome. This usually never happens that you just jump right on. What a day!!! Yesterday was zone conference, and we only have one more Zone conference with President Stoddard.
I also wanted to tell you Spencer that our theme for our mission for this Transfer is : The Book of Mormon is Powerful in the Conversion Process. It really is, and it is for us too. Think abou this as you read and pray about the Book of Mormon.
So we were on the bikes Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, and we put some good miles in. In was great weather, and I loved it!!! Sunday till today though has been rain. It's supposed to warm up again though, so I'm looking forward to being back on the bikes again. We had Zone conference yesterday also. My companion seems to be picking up a few things from me. It's incredible what example and love will do. His door approaches are also improving and I seek to praise him when he performs well. He's really starting to improve and catch on. Beverly is coming closer and closer. She's just an incredible woman, I wish all of you could meet this woman. (She makes great collard greens also, so I would suggest that you try those.) The Hatian people are great. I really surprises me how dominant that population is here in this area. This Saturday we knocked on the door of a Hatian family. We ended up talking to this guy who posed a lot of questions to us. It was striking, because I had studied the answers to everyone of his questions no more than a few hours that morning in my personal study. He asked questions about how we are to raise our children, and questions about prayer. All of them I had just studied no more than a few hours ago, and I was able to even pull out a copy of the Book of Mormon and show him where these things could be found. We had a prayer with him right there at his apartment door, before we left. I really felt like the Lord had led and guided me, and provided me with that which I needed. I think back to when I first decided to go on a mission. There was not much time to prepare, and I was afraid, and I felt inadequate and unprepared. I remember Zach telling me not to worry about it, but that the Holy Ghost would teach me all things that I needed to know and would give me the words to speak. This was where I've had to place my trust. I don't know the scriptures, but I'm learning. If I had to come out here and rely completely upon my own knowledge and ability, I would fail. I can't do this work by myself. It's the Lord and his matchless power and wisdom that sustains and upholds me. How can I think that there is anyway that I would have been able to make it thus far without the Spirit. It's instances like these where I see God's hand in the work that I know he is watching over me. He's got me by the hand.... he's walking beside me. He's near my desk when I study....He goes along with me on my bike....He's an added comforting umbrella when I walk door to door in the rain...The people see his face at each door before they see mine.... When I'm rejected he's near.... When Ia m weak he bears me up... He teaches me....His Spirit is there when I bear testimony.....When I pray he listens....He stands by me. I will be his humble servant and he will guide me. I can with boldness and authority declare this gospel to all. I can with power testify of the Restoration and the living Savior with all the conviction that I possess in my body. I can do this not because of my ownself, but because he is with me. The Savior makes me what I am not. Out here I wear his name on my heart, because I represent him. It's his name I take upon myself. I am not who I used to be, because I am one of his sheep. I was the wounded and weakened lamb that he layed across his shoulders and carried. I know the name by which he calls me, and it is his name. I'm his, I give it all to him, all that I am, all that I will be, because it's my choice and he cared enough to die for me. He now helps me day to day, and I see his hand in the work. I know these things to be true. God made sure I could know of these things and has sent me here to labor among his children. I love feeling the Spirit, and having the Spirit work through me, it truly is from God. I leave you with this my Testimony, In Jesus the Christ's sacred name. Amen.
Sincerely, Elder Adams
P.S- Here are some scriptures DC 121:7-29, and for Josh: DC 105:35-36 -This has to do with being called and being chosen.
He's an accountant from Concord California. President Doll, is his name. President Stoddard leaves in 9 weeks, July 1.
We offer to serve people, or help them get their yards ready, but people are very defensive. We tried to just help a lady who had some stuff on the ground by her car, and she really did not want our help. She finally consented when we told her we were going into the same business that she was. Otherwise she was determined to make two trips. It's like if you are not part of the same faith, then you can't help each other. That's the concept that people have. They are very independent and afraid, and defensive here. I wish we could help people, but all we can do is offer.
Well we were business contacting, and it was a flooring business that we were going to. She had an arm ful of flooring samples and some on the pavement near her car, and we offered to help. She was probably 65-70 years old and drove this Honda Sports car. Our help to her was almost like an attack. We are leaving in 5 minutes to do our Grocery shopping.
Get this! On Monday, my companion received a package and 2 letters. Then at Zone Conference yesterday he received another 6 letters and 2 packages. This companion receives more mail than anyone. His girlfriend writes him about every three days, plus letters from his extended family. It's insanity.
Yeah you've got to love the shopping.
With all of these letters my companion has to write a bunch of them today. So He's going to write them here in the cafe' area and I'm going to work out in the gym. I can also email you back and forth. I' be back later this afternoon. Probably 3:00 my time or 2:30, just check for me. I'll write you later. Oh, and where is this letter from Zach you were going to print off and send to me?

Soccer on the Northwestern Turf Field!!!
Hi, This morning I got to play soccer on the Northwestern Turf Field!!!
Mom I didn't even read this. I need you to contact Audrey and or Zach and tell them i can't read his email. Please tell them I would love to write a letter, but I have to be obedient aI can't read this. Please tell them not to send them anymore. I'm sorry.
Save the letter that zach emailed me, for all I know I might have to read how he is doing in Italy when I get home.
Mom please don't give my address out to anyone. I can't have stuff forwarded either. Give them the mission office address and they can write. I will just see it pop up on my email and I'll have to delete it. I got one from Kevin and I read it and did him the courtesy of telling him I can't read or write anymore. Zach's I didn't even get to read. Please don't make this harder for me to do by allowing more people to write me. Help pass the word around. Thanks.
I liked the tie and I wore it on Sunday. My Easter started out great. I made breakfast, which I hadn't done in a while, and then we had Stake Conference. It was a broadcast from Salt Lake to severl states here in the Midwest. We got to hear from Elder Oaks and the Prophet again. There was some great stuff in there. My companion and I walked in just in time to hear Bill be sustained to receive the Melchezidek Priesthood. I was way in the back standing up, and he was all the way at the front, but I raised my hand high. We had wards from Chicago and all over here at our meeting house, which is the Stake center. After the Conference we took care of Bill's ordination. Like I said, Bill had asked me to confer the priesthood on him and ordain him to the office of an Elder. It was such a neat experience. A few members that I knew from the Chicago 1st ward and some other missionaries, including Elder Purdie were gathered in a small room. I stood behind Bill with both of my hands on his head. I then got to give him a priesthood blessing. This was so incredible to see how his conversion and progression has blossomed, and to think that it's been almost a year. Wow!!! The weather was also incredible for Easter. My companion then wanted to go home and take lunch, and this is where things turned. Our dinner appointment for that night canceled, so we were then going to go over to another members, and I decided I would make some Jello to take over while my companion ate. I burnt my hand on a the handle of a pan when I was boiling water. Then I was trying to clean the griddle from breakfast this morning and I went to pour some oil on a paper towel and dropped the bottle. Vegetable oil splashed and spilled everywhere: all over my 3 piece brown suit, on the floor, and on the counter. It was turning out to be my day. Things got cleaned up and I changed my suit, and I was extrememly glad to be back out in the warm weather knocking doors. Then our dinner appointment called to say they would still be expecting us. So I canceled the other one. I had put the Jello in the freezer, and when we went to get it part of it had frozen. I had made two dishes one was a mixture of strawberry and berry fusion, the other was apricot and grape. Purple and Orange made a translucent brown color. The members tried it, and I think they liked the berry one, but there was a lot left over of the odd mixture. It was a good meal though. It turned out to be an awesome Easter. Thanks for the package. On another note. Beverly was hospitalized on Friday. She woke up in the night in a sweat, checked her sugar, and everything was fine. When she tried to walk downstairs she found she couldn't breath. She didn't remember anything after that. The doctors said when they checked her vitals when she got to the hospital her heart beat was at 30! We visited her Friday and Sunday. Monday she had a wire threaded through her arteries and everything was ok. Yesterday we taught Beverly and a member came along with us. We planned to teach the Plan of Salvation. After answering her questions about temples and a few more questions that she had about worthiness we went into the Plan of Salvation. We taught using some cards that Elder Stanger had. Part way through the lesson you could tell she was really pondering what we were teaching, almost like she was struggling through something. Then she told us how a close friend to their family had passed away on Sunday. She explained how she had got up Easter morning, cooked for her family and then was found dead on the floor later that day. She added how her own health problems had been compounded lately, and how death all of the suddenly seemed so real. She explained all of this and stated that she was really trying to understand all of what we were teaching because it was so relevant. Here I sat watching how the Spirit and the doctrine of the Plan of Salvation was working to convert Beverly. She really wanted to understand. She said she didn't want to make the wrong decision, or be led astray. She talked about her mother who had passed away and expressed worries for her, and wondered what her mother would have her do. I explained to her that "for all we know your mother is being taught the same thing you are in the spirit world, or has already excepted and is waiting for a baptism to be performed for her. She's waiting for you to do her work for her Beverly, she's waiting for you." I think Beverly realized this, but she expressed concern about what her sisters and the rest of her family would do or how circumstances would change if she were to get baptized. Somewhere along all of this that Beverly was recounting to us, I noticed her emotions were on the edge and she appeared to be crying. She was touched. She was deffinately thinking about life after this life. She committed to pray and to find out. She added, how she was so close, that she just needs an answer from the Lord that she will be doing the right thing. This was a very powerful and pivotal lesson for her. The Spirit helped us so much, not only in knowing that this is what we were to teach her, because she had already had this lesson before, but also in testifying of the truthfulness of the Plan of Salvation. At the ende she pointed to her Bible and talked about how she knew these words, but "These words have meaning; I can actually see now." She has a broaded perspective of the Gospel. She said,"My faith is taking me in a different direction 'cause I was searching." She then added and looked at me and said, "When this young man knocked on my door Ireadily accepted." This was incredible, to listen to Beverly. She's connecting the dots, building a testimony, and beginning to near the edge of commitment. We are all praying for her to receive an answer of comfort and reassurance. So this morning I got invited by a member to play soccer on the Northwestern turf field. Everybody there was of a different nationality. One of them was pro in Bolivia!!! It was really cold though. I think it would have been a little warmer, but Filipe, from Chile, wanted me to play defence, so not as much running. It was good to be in the soccer scene again, it had been so long since I'd touched a ball. These guys were good though. It was really odd to hear them say Elder on the soccer field, it almost didn't register to me. I had a good steal though while I was on defence. So mom, it sounds like Satan has unleashed his archers to fire their arrows at will. You better believe Satan will work hard to disrupt things. The war he waged in heaven he wages here when he was cast out (Rev. 12:17) He fights against those who have testimonies and against those who are doing the right thing. He's not worried about those already breaking the commandments, he already has those. This should be a sign that you and the family are on the right path. The key to fighting Satan is with our testimonies (Rev. 12:11). This is how we defeated him before and this is how we will do it now. Testimony: born in love with conviction casts out contention. I have seen this so much. When someone becomes defensive or confrontational with me, I will stop and bear solemn testimony and the person with whom I am conversing will change. I've seen it happen so much out here on my mission, testimony brings the spirit and the spirit is the tool by which we do the Lord's work. My testimony is my greatest weapon out here, it is my sword, two edged. Now the other part I talked about: love. If you love someone they will be softened. If we love, we need not fear. Read 1 John 4:18. Now when things do get challenging I want you to liken the time to the journey of the Jaredites. I just read this and learned this principle myself in my personal study, it is very helpful. It's incredible how the Lord will reveal things to you through the scriptures that is why scripture study is so important. Ether 6:5-12 The Lord is pushing us in the direction he would have us go (vs 5) However often times like the Jaredites we will experience "Mountain waves" and "Terrible tempests," (vs. 6) we may even at times be "buried in the deep."(vs 7) however if we are spiritually "tight like unto a dish" then we will need not fear. We must make ourselves and our families spiritually and physically tight to withstand the waters and waves. When we are buried in the water we must cry unto the Lord that he will bring us to the top (vs7). Trust in the Lord and know that no matter what happens in a minute, an hour, a day, a week, a year, that it is for our good. Know that the Lord is pushing us in the right direction continually!! "The wind never did cease to blow towards the Promise land" (vs 8). Vs 12- Eventually they do land in the promised land and the first thing they do is thank the Lord. This is what we need to do also. Even when they were in these barges, and in the storms they sang praises to the Lord (vs 9). Keep in mind that they are in these little barges, with only two stones for light, and no way to direct their path. They are completely reliant upon the Lord to direct them. This is how we too must be, completely and entirely trusting in the Lord that he is directing us where we are to go. Even if we don't see where we are going. If we are keeping the commandments we can be assured that the path and the events, (good or bad), occurring in our lives are the pathway that we are to be on, and that these events are necessary for us to get to our goal. Life Eternal with our Father in Heaven. All things are how they are supposed to be when we are living right. Then I must say to you "2Nephi 31:20." Push on and go forward in faith, Trust the Savior, he is mighty to save and is the author and finisher of our faith. I leave you with this as my testimony with a sure knowledge that Jesus is the Christ, the risen Lord, who leads and directs this Church through his living prophet : Thomas S. Monson. The Book of Mormon is the powerful spiritual fuel we need each day, and it is the word of God. In Jesus name Amen.
Heres this scripture also. This is how I feel about my mission and what I have seen happening to the people I teach. Alma 36:24 &26.
I love you mom and Family, You are all in my prayers always.
With love,
Elder Adams
Hi how are things today. I was writing my email to you so sorry about that. My companion is obsessed with his girlfriend. He writes how he loves her and draws these little designs and writes her name all over in his planner. You can't tell me it's not a distraction. He's convinced she will wait for him. Josh needs to drop it!!!!
Yeah you can print it off and mail it to me, that is ok. Then I guess I could write to you and you could mail it to him. Or I could just write him. It's ok if you give people my residence address, but I would probably give them the mission office then they know where they can always reach me. Yeah I would love to get letters from people!!! since all of my companions rack in the letters.
My hand? From the dog bite!! They didn't even do anything with that. I told you they looked at it and sent me away, made me pay 10 bucks!! Biggest waste ever!!
Alrighty!!!.....I was just about to write him, I was considering not because he didn't write me. Nevertheless I will be merciful to him and impart the scripture I wanted to share with him. Alma 18:34This is what a missionary is.
It's not exactly balmy here. I told mom I got to play soccer this morning on the Northwester Turf field with every nationality in the world. It was cold, and my warming process was extensive.
Whatever, restitution is needed for you boy!!! Anyway, maybe you should spend important holidays like the resurrection of the Savior with your family, whom you will spend eternity with, and not with some girl that you don't need to think about for two years. Especiall when you will be leaving in a month. Then read 2 Nephi 9:40.
Have mom show you the email I sent about what my companion does because he has a girl at home that is waiting for him. Little twitterpated drawings and love sayings written all over in his planner. Read also 2 Nephi 9:39 -be spiritually minded not carnally minded. I hope I won't be stricken for using this scriptures to teach a point to you. The scriptures are just incredible though. I value them and the experiences I've had in them and teaching from them, and they have helped to build and explain my testimony.
Alright I've got to wrap this up, I still have to go grocery shopping and drop off some dry cleaning. My companion has to get a haircut and send a package also. It's the life of a missionary so I have to get going.
I love you all tons, and I will look forward to hearing from you next week. Auf Wiedersehen
I haven't been back to the sushi place, but I will go before transfers, just in case I get transfered. It sounds like there are some tempests at home so I sent mom some scriptures and I wrote about them. I want to give you the same thing and I want you and mom to study, pray, and ponder, then you will know what you are to do to keep the family strong. I love you dad and all that you do. I've actually been considering having you sent out my TL lessons so that I can teach those to the members of my district. I don't know, maybe not yet.
I love hearing from you dad, Keep tearing it up through life.

Dad sorry I can't read emails from those other than family, but thank you anyway. So it sounds like conference was great. T-bone sounds like his typical self: eating everything. That's hilarious. He ate all of the pieces and tried to take yours. He is the T-bone, it's good to see he hasn't changed though. I really liked the Priesthood session also. This was one of the fastest 2 days of my life, it was insane. The days on my mission I feel like I'm being stolen from. I don't even have enough time for my mind to settle in that it's one day before the next comes. I wake up some mornings wondering what day it is. It's insane, not right at all.So I've told everyone how I'm continuing the training of this new missionary. He's been out only 7 weeks. It's interesting teaching him things. He has a girlfriend and so that's interesting.Anyway I don't think I've shared this scripture with you, actually there are two of them. Both are whole experiences or stories.1Samuel 3:1-21 Three times the Lord calls Samuel and he doesn't recognize the voice, until he then is ready to listen to the Lord and goes to him and says "Speak; for thy servant heareth". Samuel is the child of a woman, who went to the temple praying for a child. The prophet Eli promised her it would be so. When she had the child she gave him up to serve the Lord to show gratitude to the Lord. So now Samuel helps Eli take care of things in the Temple. (Background). Think of this: How many times does the Lord need to promp us or tell us to do something before we recognize his voice? Look closely at verses 4,6, 7, 8 and 10 then jump to 19 and 21. 19 is how you stay close to the Lord and recognize his voice. This is how you keep the spirit, and know when he is speaking to you. By reading the scriptures, and listening to the Prophet.Joshua 7:4-13 (Background) The Israelites have just conquered Jericho, they went in and no sweat, knocked it down. Now they go agains Ai, and it's hard. They face trial, and they have just come into the covenant land. See the peoples reaction in the last line of 5, and Joshua's in first line of 6. In the end of 7 the people wish they'd never came into the land. Or for us in our day that we'd never undertaken a task or done something, and these people wish to go back. They want to take it all back and go back to the way things were. NOW see what the Lord has to say!!!! In verse 10 "Get thee up; wherefore liest thou thus upon thy face?" and then jump to verse 13. This is what you have to do when things get hard. Get up!!! stop worrying about things, don't sulk!!! "Up.... Sanctify yourselves" That's what we have to do. Turn to the Lord, repent and try to do better. Snap out of it, and questioning why the Lord is having you face trial won't do anything either. This is an awesome story and can help us all to overcome trial and hardship. Ponder and pray about these. I love you dad and all that you do to support me, especially the sacrifices that you make. I love you.Yours truly, Elder AdamsP.S. The past two Sundays it has snowed, spring has not Sprung!!!!

It was cold, and my warming process was extensive. It took a while to get warm!!!Whatever, restitution is needed for you boy!!! Anyway, maybe you should spend important holidays like the resurrection of the Savior with your family, whom you will spend eternity with, and not with some girl that you don't need to think about for two years. Especiall when you will be leaving in a month. Then read 2 Nephi 9:40.I love you all tons, and I will look forward to hearing from you next week. Auf Wiedersehen

Hello Adams' Family!
Happy Easter! We took some photos with your son this morning at Stake Conference. He mentioned to me that he received a new tie and I had to make sure you saw how dapper he looks. (photo of my family included too)
My husband is the ward missionary leader and spends lots of time with the missionaries. We also have the missionaries over for dinner at least every month. I love the spirit they bring with them. He makes the feeling in our home event sweeter. I tell my husband that he was probably a lot like Elder Adams when he served his mission almost 15 years ago.
I am sure you are missing your son; especially during the holidays. We love having Elder Adams here. He is an extremely hard worker and a great asset to our ward. He has spent quite a while in the Northshore 1st Ward and you should be so proud. He has had nothing short of success with plenty of baptisms in such a short time. He always shows such respect for our family and we are so happy to have been able to get to know him so well. We hope you family enjoys this Easter day.
Much Love,
Rachel & Ryan Ray--

Sweet stuff Bro. so I'm sure that you heard that I have this new companion who's been out in the missionfield 7 weeks today now!! So I'm continuing to train him. The biggest thing I'm having to work with him on is talking to people. He's a good teacher, but getting him to talk to everyone is tough. He seems kind of awkward when he does. That's one thing you should start to feel comfortable with is giving a door approach or a street contact approach to someone. These can be found in the finding section of PMG (Preach My Gospel), also there's some great starters or springboards for approaches in Ch. 10 under the section of Beginning to teach. Look at these bullets, and trust in the Lord that he will give you "in the very hour ye in the very minute that which ye shall say." That's one thing you've got to learn, TALK TO ALL!!! Every soul is precious. Anyway here's some other scriptures to guide your study. I'm going to give them to you and then I want you to teach them to the rest of the family and share your testimony. This will help you practice teaching ok. DC 33:6-10, Isaiah 42:6,
2Timothy 4:5-8. Most are about being a servant of the Lord, and how he wants us to do his work. They are great missionary scriptures and have been a great part of my study this past week. I love you bro. and Keep preparing. The time left is short, but you are so lucky that you get 2 months in the mtc ahead of you. That place is like the temple, it is one of the greatest places on the earth to be. Love ya tons bro. and sorry I didn't wish you a happy birthday last week, but you are 19!!!! Congrats.
Love the elder ELDER ADAMS,
P.S.- You're not a missionary yet Big Chief!
So it's been one week with my new companion. He's still fresh, he's only been in the mission field 7 weeks now. He is really shy and or nervous on doorsteps, and so I'm trying to work with him on this. He also seems to have difficulty in wanting to talk to everyone. Talking to people is probably the biggest thing. It's almost like it's awkward for him when he does do it. That's the thing, a lot of the times he will let people pass him by and he won't talk to them. He's told me he doesn't really like finding people in general, especially tracting, but he likes teaching. He's actually a good teacher, especially for just coming out of the MTC. Anyway we're getting through things. He's also a little slow getting ready. Things are good though it's good to be able to help him along and teach him things.Wow!!! What a conference weekend!!!! This weekend of Conference was 2 of the fastest days of my mission, next to the days in the MTC. I feel like I'm getting robbed. It truly was uplifting and Elder Holland and Elder Eyring touched me the most. Conference was simply amazing, I loved it. There were so many things that I pulled from it. How about that new Apostle. I love him, one of his talks from last conference I really enjoyed. Conference seemed to just come and go. It seems like we just had the one in October, so I know the next will probably come just as fast. It saddens me to think that I only have 2 more interviews with President Stoddard before he goes home, including the one this Friday. We got on our bikes yesterday, and that felt good. President wants us to start conserving the miles on our cars and using our bikes. So we did some biking yesterday which felt really good.Mom I want you to know....You'd be surprised how much cleaner I am than the companions that I've had. With the exception of my trainer. He was clean also. Some of these missionaries though.....I think you'd be impressed with how clean I am mom. I know you used to say that I lived like a wild animal. Anyway most of this weeks news has just been me trying to teach and continue to train Elder Stanger.
Love ya tons, Elder Adams
P.S. The past two Sundays in a row we've had snow. It's ridiculous!! It's April, Winter is over, it needs to take a seat on the bench!!
Mom, you need to email Zach or tell his mom to, and tell him that I can't email him!!!! Tell him he has to write me. I have to be obedient, I know it's tough and we don't see the reason, but we have to. I can only email family. As much as Zach basically is my brother and of my own blood (I mean we shared the womb practically) I can't email him. Tell him not to email me. You can tell him these things that I wrote to you. Just have him write me a letter, and I will promptly respond. I love him.
Thanks for the brief update. I wanted you to know that I still have the little piece of wood with my name on it in my backpack that you gave me. I still carry it with me. I love you litte bro. I hope everything in your life is going well and that you are being blessed. Continue to pray each night and morning and to read the scriptures, especially the Book of Mormon. If you do this I know that you will be happier each day, and that the trials and frustrations of life will become lighter. You will be able to take whatever each day throws at you. I love you kid, you're a good bro. I wish we had been closer and that I had treated you with more respect. Keep striving to excel in every aspect of your life, and rely on the Lord in doing so and he will bless you.
Love your Big Bro.
Elder Adams
It's about time, we are just sitting here emailing. My companion is almost done emailing President. Then we need to get groceries. I might come back later. I'm here for maybe 10 min. more. You're slow out of the gate. Just kidding
I don't know, but if he wants to break a rule he can. I've known of missionaries emailing girlfriends. That missionary ended up choosing to go home.(Probably homesick) That's the thing, you could break the rule and president probably wouldn't know, but the Lord would, and you would and so would the Spirit, and you'd feel that. You'd know you were without that, you'd feel naked. It's a personal choice, Obedience, you have to be obedient though.
Andrew's Farewell was on mother's day so...I don't know. Anyway it's good to hear all is well. Now are you sure that the socks in my drawer ate the ones that say kb on the toe. And they are thin. I thought I packed them all, but I'll trust you. Wow, what a tax return, that's nice. Looks like Josh had a good birthday too.
Good bye. I might be back later on today, so look for me. Gotta get some groceries.
Nice so then he can pack his!!! That's messed up. I'm ONline again
I forgot to tell you. The a week or two ago when we were on the L train going downtown we ran into some peole from Rome, Italy. They spoke English, a little. Elder Brown and I helped them find out which train they needed to get on and when they needed to get off. They got on the same train as us and we talked with them the whole way. They were here for a wedding of a family member. They told us about Italy, and we told them a little about who we were and that there are missionaries in Italy. Italians are really cool. It was so cool to talk to them. It was mainly these two older ladies in this group that we were talking with. They were really nice though, both Catholic. One of them spoke better English than the other and had to do some translating. The diversity here is incredible. I like to think of this city as the crossroads of the world. I've also spoken to people from African on the L. This experience talking with these people from Rome, Italy was really cool. Also with Elder Brown, I forgot to tell you that we were let into a home of a man from Iraq!!! We don't have missionaries there. He has converted to Christianity, and now he makes trips back to the middle east to try and convert other muslims. He said thats what we should be doing here is converting people who don't have a faith in Christ. "Find every Jew, Indian, and Arabic, and convert him!" That's what he wanted us to do. We tried talking to him about our message but he wasn't as interested. There was probably 10 members of his family there in the living room just listening to us. It was quite the experience. We ended up giving him some dvds that he could share with the people in the middle east. This was neat. We then all stood his whole family included and we had a prayer together. There are so many different kinds of people here.
We have a dinner appt. @ 5:30 so that's 4:30 your time. Jump on.
I forgot to wish you all a Happy Easter. This Sunday is our stake conference, where Bill Murray will be sustained to the Melchezidek Priesthood. Afterwards I think the ordination will take place. I will get to ordain him to this Priesthood, how cool is that!!!! I let you know how things go.

I can't believe you don't like the Spandex!! I love them on a bike. Sounds like you had a great experience. I have a new comp though, aske mom about him. He loves snowboarding. Here's your scriptures for the week. ALma 16-16-17, 3NEphi 21:29 and DC 49:27 also there is a sweet call to battle in Jeremiah 46. Also pay close attention to the last 2 verses in this chapter. I love you bro. Go forth and serve. Sorry I have short time to write this week because we had transfers today, and I got my new companion.
YOU are a great bro. I'm glad that you look up to me, and that my choices didn't cause you to look down on me, and that you are doing well. I love you. This means a lot to me that you look up to me.
Love ya,
Elder Adams
I'm still in Evanston and I have a new companion.
Ok so my new companion is Elder Stanger. He's from West Haven, Utah. He graduated in '08, so he's Josh's age. He's only been out on his mission for 6 weeks, so he's really new. I'm excited about this because it's almost like having Josh out here with me. I want to help him learn all he can and how to do things right, because I hope that is how Josh is received. One of the women in the ward, her father is the Mission President of the mission Josh is going to!!!! I talked to her a bit, and she said it's not your typical european mission. They have been busy and had baptsims lately. So Elder Brown is thinking about going home, and President wants him to try this new area and being on a bike for two weeks or so, and then decide. President had been thinking about sending him home also. I've been on the phone every night this past week basically since Wednesday with President Stoddard. Last Wednesday My comp had another snapping moment when we were downtown in Chicago. Only this time we were on our bikes!!! Yeah, it was a little intense. He wouldn't listen to me, and things got a little crazy. Finally I got him to stop and I called President. We ended up having to do a long bike ride back to our area, because they wouldn't let you take bikes on the L-train during rush hour. It was intense, quite a test of my patience. That's what started the calls with President, and every night I had to update him. Elder Brown had some pretty depressing days. Especially yesterday when he found out he was being transfered and this morning also. Yesterday he thanked me though for putting up with him, and then as we got in the car yesterday, he started to cry and with tear filled eyes he told me "I don't care what anyone says, you're a good guy Elder Adams." It really meant a lot to me. Elder Brown and I have been through a lot. It was here that he thought that going home was the right thing to do. We'll see how things pan out. Today after transfers I informed his new companion, as president instructed, about Elder Brown and his medication and condition etc.
Friday we went to Giordano's to celebrat his birthday. I gave Deep Dish pizza another chance, and it was awesome!!! Oh it was good. Giordano's is the place, I know dad and Spencer would love it. So I'm now with Elder Stanger. I'm excited about this It's going to be great, an almost fresh out of the MTC missionary. We've just gotten back and dumped all of his stuff off and sat down to some email time.
I did get the puzzles, and the Church one is Great!!!! As for the Shoe laces I alread bought some. Yeah I wouldn't get 6 short sleeve shirts. I don't think the Costco one is a no-iron, and I think it's bigger isn't it. Or if it isn't I don't think that it's the tailored fit. If I get a needle I can blow the ball up with this bike pump that I bought out here. I can't believe that Zach went through the entire MTC without once writing me!! I think I'll write him here soon. The Temple experience sounds like mine. I can't believe Josh doesn't like the spandex bottoms. That's all I wear. I love them. Wait till he gets on a bike!!!! Although I guess that there are other missionaries out here who just have the cottons. I've never done sealings that's really neat. As for Bill coming in October, I think that he might be staying with Elder Purdie, because he'll be home then, but I don't know. I'll talk to Bill about it though.
Josh should really go to his last conference with dad and spencer before his mission. It's amazing how we think about the blessings we receive. I still don't know what I did to deserve to be able to serve a mission. I think it is such a tender mercy of the Lord. I still think it's incredible that I'm a missionary, who would have thought. This deffinately wasn't part of my plans, but the Lord had a plan for me. I'm here, and I think it's such blessing. I still feel like I just came out of the MTC. I love this work and being a missionary. Wow, I'm a missionary, I wouldn't trade this for the world. If Real Salt Lake asked me to come home now and play for them, I couldn't do it. It's such a blessing to be out here. To feel the spirit, and to have the Lord guide you. You're right mom, serving a mission is a Pearl of Great Price. I would do anything, sell all to have this. And to think I was selfish enough to not have this in my plans. Now look where I am, I'm here in the service of the Lord. This is the greatest decision I've ever made. Thank you for your testimony. Enjoy conference this week, and I will look for you next week.
With love to all,
Elder Adams
I did go to the doctors about two weeks ago for that dog bite, and they looked at it a sent me away. I spent an hour waiting in that office though, and I still had to pay a $10 co-pay!!! I also want to get some more of that blue gel, or I might just buy some different stuff out here.
One more item. I want you to look at Enos 1. This shows (at the beginning when enos remembers his fathers words and then prays) that children hear their parents. I realize that all along you were doing good for me. That eventually I too dropped to my knees in prayer and pleaded with the Lord. You've taught me a lot mom and dad. I see now more and more of what you taught me coming out. I was being prepared for a mission by the Lord, by my trials, and by you and dad all along. There were certain things I had to go through, they all were for my good. You were great parents. You've done so much for me.
I love you, Your son, Elder Adams
Thank you bud. You're doing great. I am too. I'm sorry I don't have much time to write you specifically, but I wrote a bunch of stuff about what is going on to mom. I have a new companion. He loves snowboarding, and cars.
Love ya reef. Oh I taught my last companion that and dofer
The lessons you taught me, the things you told me. You were always trying to help me. I love you mom and dad. You truly were trying to instill in me gospel principles. Mom you are like one of the mothers of the Stripling warriors. Eddie said that it's like you are out here on my mission with me with these puzzles. A part of you is out here. I love you so much. A part of you is not just out here on my mission, a part of you will be with me the rest of my life. You are a good woman, and daughter of our father in heaven. I love you mom.
Elder Adams
YOU are a great bro. I'm glad that you look up to me, and that my choices didn't cause you to look down on me, and that you are doing well. I love you. This means a lot to me that you look up to me.
