Devin's First Email

Everything is going great hope that you got my first letter. The first day was great. I need you to send me my indoor shoes, those immunizations, and when I get to Chicago I want my skate shoes, white or black, and my pull up bar, but they have pull up bars in the residence halls. IN our room there are two bunk beds and four closets with 3 drawers for us. Every morning I wake up and jump rope and do push ups and sit ups, other days I do pull ups. Then we get dressed and go to personal study in the classroom. I have a sweet personal study set up that will take me about 4-5 months to complete (my teacher taught me it.) After study we go to breakfast and THEY HAVE GRANOLA AAAAHH. It is so good I eat that and fruit every morning. We have some sisters in our district and our class which I guess is really rare, but they are great (Sis. wilson, johns, horne, and sis. morris) They have some really cool and spiritual stories. We are working on our first lesson and practicing teaching it, it's gonna be great. We are supposed to go to the Teaching resource center tomorrow and practice teaching it in a room set up like a living room with a volunteer that comes in and plays like an investigator. We got to watch some other Elders on tv screens teach here cause we didn't have a teacher for like a day or day and a half, and so as district leader I had to come up with ideas for our district to do and things to keep us focused, and come up with group activities. Our Branch pres. was impressed that I took charge. Meetings on Sunday were alot and long for me. All of my meetings including district ones I had about 10! Most elders and sisters have only 5. My companion is great but he comes from a highschool in washington with only 200 people and so he's a little weird. Believe it or not i get up about two min. before him, work out for 20-25 min and then I go and shower and get ready, and he just gets ready, and I have beat him almost everyday. He says he washes his hair twice and such. But at night him, my companion,(Elder Brown), or one of the other elders run stairs with me every night. I met some elders going to germany and I spoke with them in german for a while, I think they were astonished how much I knew because my name tag was in english and I spoke english also without an accent. But I played soccer one of gym periods and that was fun. I have bad farts, smells like cat litter box. One of the elders in our room Elder Nielson, going to Talahassee (Which is where most of our group is going, talahassee and chicago), anyway elder nielson wore a hannah montan tshirt, but he can bit a lid( the whole top of a can) off with his teeth. He's hilarious. We also sing a lot but we sound like dying animals. We basically eat and go to class all day, so consequently my butt hurts so bad, I think I have internal bleeding and bruising, it's dead. Tell spencer to work hard at the soccer and good luck. What's that T-bone doing. Tell dad and spence this is just like all-stars, the leadership, meetings etc. I'm doing laundary for the first time too. It's fantastico. I am really having fun though and getting to love all the members of my district. These days are flying by way too quick I'm surprised I remembered all of this stuff to write cause it goes by so fast that I forget. It's kinda depressing I feel like my mission is already going to be over and it'll be gone. It's fun though we laugh a lot, and feel the spirit a ton. Send this to Zach Grandma and all the friends thanks a love ya tons
Your missionary,
Devin
